Chicago teens refused to be silent in the face of gun violence. Orange is the color that Hadiya Pendleton’s friends wore in her honor when she was shot and killed in Chicago at the age of 15—just one week after performing at President Obama’s 2nd inaugural parade in 2013. After her death, Hadiya’s friends and family knew they had to stand up, speak out, and took action in her honor, selecting #WearOrange to raise awareness about gun violence because it is the color used by hunters to protect themselves. 

No one is immune to gun violence, as proven by the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that claimed the lives of 20 first-graders and six educators. The Know the Signs prevention programs from Sandy Hook Promise are making schools and communities safer.  Share Sandy Hook Promise with your family and friends and work with us to #ProtectOurKids from gun violence.
