The Brotherhood of Beth Haverim Shir Shalom (BHSS) is dedicated to serve the adult males of our community by promoting programs of interest to men (religious or secular), providing means for family activities as well as social interaction to strengthen our ties to the community in a Jewish context.
Through our affiliation with the Men of Reform Judaism (MRJ) (http://www.nftb.org), your membership in the Brotherhood of Beth Haverim Shir Shalom helps support the following programs through the
Jewish Chautauqua Society (JCS) - JCS has worked on inter-faith programs for over 100 years. Two of the JCS programs are the Scholar in Residence program where primarily Reform Rabbis serve as adjunct professors to colleges and theological institutions and The Interfaith Institute Program; a program where local clergy can discuss the commonalities of their respective faiths.
Reform on Campus (ROC) ROC provides grants for programs the nation’s college campuses to serve Reform Jewish youth. Through these grants, Shabbat programs, retreats, speakers, social action programs and prayer books are provided. When these programs are offered, ties between our college youth and the Reform Jewish community are supported and strengthened.
ACHIM Corps - MRJ’s Achim Corps program addresses the secular and spiritual concerns of the male members of our community. Some of the programs provided are the Men’s Health Initiative, Men and Observance Series, and the Men and Contemporary Roles Program. Through these programs, the men and male youth of our community can further define their sense of belonging, and commitment to Judaism. ACHIM magazine is published semi-annually, and mailed directly to members of each local Brotherhood.
In addition to our special events (see our application for some of these), Brotherhood meets on the third Thursday of each month (subject to change) rotating between local establishments in the
